We are an historical congregation, nearly 140 years old. While we take great pride in our Manchester past, we are also committed to our present and our future. We offer an opportunity for those who so choose to worship, study, celebrate and mourn together; TAY is also committed to making our community and our world a better place, and so we are actively doing ‘TIKKUN OLAM’ — repairing our world through ‘GEMILUT CHASADEEM’ — acts of loving kindness.
As Reform Jews, we take seriously the mandate that each of us should make our own educated decisions about ritual and so you will find our families spread out across the spectrum of Jewish observance. Each of us however, is dedicated to living an active and committed Jewish life.
Temple Adath Yeshurun offers a rich array of monthly social, cultural, and educational programs, including lifelong learning activities, regular discussions about the middle east and current events, and programs focused on social action and social justice. The Brotherhood and Sisterhood remain vibrant and active, organizing regular programs both at the Temple and throughout the community.
The religious school—now merged with the school of Temple Israel, the local Conservative congregation—has been re-envisioned as The Jewish Learning Collective of Manchester, providing a collaborative and robust educational program for local families.
TAY is deeply committed to community service and interfaith engagement and plays a leading role in the local clergy association. The congregation supports local food banks and shelters and annually hosts the community-wide Martin Luther King Jr. celebration. Today, Manchester benefits from a warm, cooperative, and respectful dialogue among its Jewish, Christian, and Muslim communities.
